An Unsubtle Love

What can I say
It was an unsubtle love
All teeth and tongue
And far flung references
To cool things.

Laughable, really. And yet
The memory of it
Makes me wake, years later
In a bed suddenly unfamiliar
In a stranger's body
I recognise as
A younger version,
A cooler person.

Fresh Lime Soda

If you added a spoonful of sugar
And soda
And a couple of ice cubes
She would be most refreshing
On a summer day.
You would never know
That she had been soured
By so many relationships gone wrong.
